Living with Carnivores

A vegetarian human's adventure with cats

Cats’ Life

The human’s 2-legged friends used to say they wanted to be reincarnated as her pets. (It’s an unfair rumor that the human spoils her furry friends.) In actuality, the 4-leggeds do have a pretty good life here, even if they don’t think so themselves. (What cat is totally satisfied with his/her surroundings?) They have cushy furniture to sprawl on and all the fleece blankets they could ever want or need.  They have the love and adoration of the human. They have the company of good friends, plus the eats here are pretty primo too.  For now, they’ll keep their human and their house.

Soaking up the Sun

The human noticed Mac and Caesar catching a bit of afternoon sun in the living room. They were laying so close that Caesar’s face was practically on Mac’s hip.  (Of course, Mac was engaging in some serious paw dangling.) As she drew closer with the camera, the human realized that Fireball was there as well. So nice to see the sun again after all these cold, dark months!

Kitty Nest

The kitty nest is so comfy that neither the human nor the meows want to leave it in the morning or the rest of the day. It’s amazing what ample amounts of flannel, fleece, velour, synthetic fur blankets, and a far-infrared heating pad can do to ease a body in cold weather. (And, if you’re keeping count, there are 5 kitties on that bed.)

Bedmaking QC

The human changed the sheets.  This, of course, meant it was time to help the human make the bed — and ensure she did the job right!
First, Caesar got involved.  He held down the sheets so the human could get a tight pull to ensure there were no wrinkles. He’s really generous that way.  Next, Pepe got into the action.  He explored the various layers of blankets to make sure all layers were pulled up to the top of the bed. Wouldn’t want any wrinkles there either.  The quality control (QC) experts were hard at work. <<Such a lucky human!>>

Don’t Look at Me Like That!

It’s hard to figure out what Pepe is thinking here.  It is an interesting position he’s put himself in and not one he often takes.

SuperCat

There he is, SuperCat, able to leap tall obstacles and pick up large cat toys in his mouth and race through the house making a lot of noise. That’s Caesar Tiger Bear all stretched out with his forepaws dangling over the bone-shaped pillow.  Doesn’t he look comfy? And those are the lovely paws the human adores and the Emperor tries to keep from being petted and admired. This morning it was just too much work to pull his paws in close and hide them from the human’s gaze or touch.  The human even managed a soft pet or two. The Emperor didn’t pull them away, although he did make a funny face.<<The suffering and humiliation I must endure…>>>

Only Cruel People Wake Up Sleeping Meows

Here’s the Emperor catching a bit of early-morning sunshine… Fortunately, the only offensive thing the human did was take his picture.

How Many Cats Do You Count Here?

You are correct if you answered three.

Big Cat, Little Bed

This is Caesar Tiger Bear squashing himself into one of the smallest kitty beds in the whole house.  <<The evil human is sneaking up behind me with the camera. This cannot be good…>>Note how the formerly round bed has taken on an oblong shape? There are a couple of seams that look to be seeing a bit of stress as well. Actually, cats are supposed to climb down inside the opening where they can hide in their own private kitty cave. The human draped a blanket down into the opening to make it more attractive. Clearly it did, but not in the way the 2-legged expected. And it goes without staying that there is paw dangling behavior going on. Of course, the two small cats that would best fit in that small bed are instead stretched out in the adjacent large kitty beds.  Felines…
