Our Human has been Gone & We’ve Felt Abandoned!

Poor little kitties.  Their human was out the door early and back late for four days last week.  Clearly, the kitties felt abandoned (or like they didn’t get enough human torture sessions in during those days). The last day the human got back early and climbed into bed with them for a cuddle. It wasn’t long before she had 2 cats on her chest, 1 next to her head on the pillow (who soon moved down by one of her arms), and 2 more in nearby kitty beds. All were singing up a storm and she even got her fingers licked by Pepe.Ahhhh, so good to be home. The formerly globe-trotting human has become a homebody with the help of her furry friends.

My Toy, M-I-N-E !

Is there any doubt who is going to get to enjoy the scratching disc this morning?

Corky Catches Some Sunshine

And look who the human caught out the other afternoon catching some sunshine!  Of course, as soon as the human and camera came close, it was time for some gratuitous grooming. << Must ensure coat looks spiffy for pictures!>>When the annoying human got too close, it was time for a change of scenery, so off he hopped into the bay window.  At least the human managed to get 3 photos in a row where Corky is in focus and not just a grey blur. That’s progress of a sort.

Mr. Dangle Paws Strikes a Pose

Look at Mr. Dangle Paws. Aren’t those lovely toes?  Aren’t his feet big? They are amazingly soft…not that the human is allowed to pet them very often.  If he sees the human coming, as often as not Caesar tucks his front feet away under his chest so she can’t play with them. Not sure why the human got away with petting and photographing them this time, but I suppose it’s all part of cats hating to be predictable.

Couch Potatoes

The human took a break from slaving away on the keyboard and walked into the living room the other day. Surprisingly, she found both Mac and Pepe stretched out on one of the couches.Of course, the Mackadoodle was dangling a paw and looking a tad mischievous.Pepe, on the other hand, looked like he was the epitome of the well-behaved kitty.  (And he too was doing some paw dangling.)  This week’s hot weather (after a prolonged cool spell) seems to have contributed to the kitties looking for new places to sleep in cooler parts of the house.

Happy Cats (or the Swirling Masses)

What to see what happy cats look like? This is a bag of pure, freeze dried raw chicken breast.  All the human has to do is shake the bag and they come running, plaintive cries and all.  And when the human opens the bag and puts it on the floor, everyone has to have a sniff. There is lots of extraneous grooming as they wait patiently for the human to stop taking pictures and start tossing treats for them to chase.Notice the laser eyes boring into the slow, lazy human who is still too preoccupied with photo-taking to do her job of feeding the meows? She would be fired if there were another human slave nearby who was willing (or could be forced) to assume her duties.  (Heavy sigh…)

Double Decker

Speaking of kitty condos, the other morning, the human walked by only to see Pepe’s face peeking out of the lower “cave” in the downstairs kitty condo — a level he doesn’t usually frequent.  <<Drats, I just moved the blanket that was in the lower level to the upper level so Pepe would be more comfortable and now he doesn’t have much padding. >>She stuck her silly human hand into that hiding spot meaning to retrieve one of the fleece blankets only to find a little kitty body in there. She petted the kitty and carefully lifted the blankets to see who was there and was greatly to find Corky reclining in the upper cave. It’s not too often that the biological brothers sleep that close together.  And it may well be that this is the first time in the 5 years the 2 kitty condo/scratching posts have been in the house that one of them had 2 cats inhabiting both kitty caves simultaneously. You just never know what you’re going to find with this crew.

Pepe has a New Hiding Spot

He’s been camping out in the downstairs kitty condo’s 2nd “story” cave.  With all the fuzzy blankets draped over that cat scratching post, if you aren’t careful when you walk by, you completely miss him.  And probably, that’s the whole point! On the other hand, being Pepe, he usually can’t resist the urge to reach out and touch you with one of those paws as you walk by, thereby letting you know where he’s hiding. So much for the element of surprise!

Mercuddles

And once again we see the Merkitty and the Little Red Bee cuddling while the early morning light is streaming in the window. For a change, Mac actually seems like she’s comforting Fireball…or at least it looked that way until the human got too close with the annoying camera and started snapping pictures. This time she’s not sprawling on top of the little guy.Come close with the camera, and everyone’s attention is on high alert.Don’t their eyes look zany? Fireball seems to be worrying about what the human will do next (she kissed both of them moments before). Mac, on the other hand, seems to be thinking that if she can just endure this a bit longer…

The Least Photogenic Member of the Pack…Or the Hardest to Photograph

It’s not that Corky doesn’t do cute things too. And it’s not that the human ignores him or fails to give him just as much attention as the rest of the crew. It’s just that he does something cute, then moves again before the silly human can get a good photo. She’s taken so many shots that end up showing a blurry grey body moving away. The camera lens is just not fast enough at low light to capture his antics. But here’s a cute shot where he was sleepy (so not moving around energetically) and sat still long enough to get a good photo.  He does have the softest, plushest grey fur. And he has the shadows of 3 little “tiger” rings on his tail. Bet he has some interesting ancestry.

Fireball Catches a Spot of Sunshine

The Little Red Bee was seen venturing out of his soft bed and catching some afternoon rays. And being a cat of this house, he was of course dangling at least one paw while chillin’ in the sunshine. (Those who’ve read this blog for a while may recognize the infamous fountain that the Merkitty loves to dismantle in the background.)

Snuggles with Mac – Part 2

And here’s Mac the Merkitty snuggling with Fireball. She now outweighs him, but that doesn’t mean she cuts him any slack. Here she is draped over his body while he tries to sleep. It must not be as painful as it looks because he continued to stay there until she got bored and looked elsewhere for entertainment.  She’s SUCH a Merkitty!

Pepe’s Best Turtle Impression

And here we have Pepe doing his best upside-down turtle impression…or maybe he’s pretending to be an otter enjoying snacks after adventures on the river. No, he really lays that way, at least until the human walks around him and then he begs for pets. He’s a unique individual for sure!  And, yes, his belly really is so soft. However, if you’re foolish enough to stick a hand or a face on that soft spot, be prepared to feel his teeth and claws!

Snuggles with Mac – Part 1

Here are Mac and Caesar snuggling.  Caesar looks like he’s completely zonked. Not so, the Merkitty, who is smirking as though she was up to something. (Just sayin’…)The Big Guy has one of his big paws wrapped around his little friend.  (They really are big paws!)During the time it took the silly human to walk around the recumbent pair and shoot a couple of photos, Mac extended both front paws and went for a bit of a dangle. Caesar snoozes on oblivious, but we’re betting the Merkitty is planning mischief.
