Basket Baby…

juniper-nov-2016And here is no longer little Juniper (Junipurr) playing hide ‘n seek in a clothes basket.  Gotta love those big eyes. Wonder if she’s considering pouncing?

Bag Baby

img_3981Okay, hard as it is to believe, the Trio is nearly universally afraid of paper bags and boxes, although Mac did once destroy a beautiful big box by treating it as a giant shredding post. On the other hand, she did all her shredding on the outside of the box, not by going inside it.img_3982Among the duo, Pepe has discovered the joys of a number of boxes, and more recently he’s gotten into paper bags with handles. Case in point, the human brought home some organizing tools recently and offered the paper bag the items left the store in to the kitties. Pepe the Adventurous checked it out right away and ran inside.  Soon, he could be seen making a flying run across the slick Pergo floor and sliding paws first into the bag, which of course then slide several feet further in the same direction. It wasn’t long before the bag that had been in the kitchen was all the way to the far wall in the next room. In between diving and sliding sessions, Pepe has been peeking out of the bag like Kilroy.  Those kitties are just so much fun!

Feed us, Human…Or else!

img_3985The human came in from running errands the other night. <<How dare you leave the house without doling out more crunchies?>> Needless to say, the 2 biggest crunchy aficionados had a whole lot to say to the tardy 2-legged.img_3984In typical fashion, the human futzed around with her camera trying to get photos of the open mouthed sassing that was going on rather than rushing upstairs to fill the empty food dishes. <<Such a bad human.>> Alas, no sassy-faced kitty shots were had (the camera’s lens is just too slow to capture the rapid facial changes), but the human sure got an earful of their opinions. And she really did put down the camera and go dole out crunchies…at last.  They may be small creatures, but they are feisty beasties! It’s best (and safest) to give them their own way.

Love Buddy

img_3893Caesar Tiger Bear is a big love muffin. Despite his size and seniority, he’s the gentlest of giants and loves to cuddle with all the other kitties.img_3891He’s always grooming the other 4-leggeds and tries his best to keep the peace when someone gets a bit feisty. He huffs a bit when Mac gets sillied up and attacks his tail, but he never swats at her even when she so deserves it. He lets Fireball follow him around like a 4 year old human following his older brother. He he puts up with Pepe tackling him for an occasional wrestle. And when Corky complains loudly about the stupid human who won’t open the cellar door, Caesar goes to his aid and tries to bring comfort. The only time he’s anything other than absolutely selfless is when food is being served. Then he remembers his own needs and desires.
img_3890What he was doing here with Mac the human does not know. She supposes Caesar was in the chair first, and Mac jumped up and pushed him out of his spot looking for a bit of attention. Being a gentleman, he would have gotten up and groomed the little minx. Either way, they seem cozily content.

Some Days, it’s Just too Hard to Carry on…

img_3903Ah, the snoozing Pepe Monster.  Is he lying there in surrender, or is he sneaking a quick transmission to the mother ship? (He’s always got one of those feet in the air, which the human suspects could be secret antennae.) As curved as cats’ spines are, you wouldn’t think that laying flat on their backs would be comfortable, but this is really the way he sleeps.

Suspended Animation

img_3870 A couple of years ago, the human found the cutest little kitty hammocks  that attach to the underside of chair legs or small tables. They feature rip-stop nylon fabric on one side and fleece on the other. Four ties extend from the basic square hammock and each tie features a tough rubberized material sewn to rip-stop nylon straps on one side and heavy-duty Velcro-type fabric sewn on the other so they can be attached around the legs of furniture without slipping or leaving marks. Better yet, they are completely washable, although getting kitty fur off fleece or anything else does require some extra effort.  And since they are under chairs, they’re not immediately visible, so for the feline nation, it’s a great hideaway — at least from the silly human and her annoying camera.img_3871Usually it’s the smaller kitties like Fireball and Macaroni who hang out in the hammocks, which of course have extra layers of fleecy fabric on them.  However, one day recently the human walked by and found the Big Guy swinging in the wind.  Fortunately, he only tips the scale at about 18 pounds at the moment, as the hammocks do have a 20 pound weight limit.  However, it was nice to see Caesar Tiger Bear getting to have a little fun as well. Perhaps he was trying to hide from his little red “brother,” Fireball, who follows him everywhere.

That Really Doesn’t Look Comfortable…

img_3869The human walked into the bedroom a few months back in the middle of the morning and saw this.img_3868Honestly, it doesn’t look comfortable, does it?img_3867Caesar looks like he’s about to fall out of the kitty bed, but he’s not.img_3866Leave it to the trio to pile into the same kitty bed even when it’s hot outside.img_3864Per usual the human had to ruin their cuddle. If she doesn’t do it by clicking that horrible camera with its flash, then she’s kissing their heads and petting their paws until they just get annoyed. This time she snuck around back and took a very unflattering picture. Mac was mad and Caesar was horrified. <<You’re seriously going to post that one on the internet? There will be revenge!>>

We’re Back!

img_3855No, the kitties haven’t stopped having adventures. It’s just that the silly human has been overly busy with work all summer and fall to transcribe their words and post their pictures. She has promised her keepers to do better now.  So what have they been up to?  Well, the Little Red Bee went on a 3-day rebellious streak where he stayed in the basement hunting regardless of how many times the human called him. As a consequence, the basement is now off limits to all the 4-leggeds, and needless to say that hasn’t gone over well. Pepe has a new habit of burrowing under the covers as the human attempts to make the bed in the morning. What would ordinarily take 5 minutes takes 15, but brings lots of healthy laughter and often some pictures.  The Merkitty hasn’t been much of a water monster of late, but has become the crunchy-bowl guardian. No one gets to have access to the bowl until and unless she’s had all she wants to eat. In warmer weather she camps on the floor beside the bigger bowl lest some crunchies fall into the container that she doesn’t know about. Corky has increased his vocal commentary on all the human’s many faults, particularly when the cellar door remains obstinately shut. The human increased the number of fleecy soft blankets she has on nearly all the surfaces where the cats frequent, and in all the kitty condos and beds, so Caesar has been reluctant to get up in the morning. On the other hand, at night, he’s usually first on the bed to greet the human and he quickly burrows down under the blankets beside her where he sleeps for an hour or two.  He also has returned to carefully climbing onto her recumbent chest and laying down to get pets, so that’s progress. And now that temps are getting quite crispy, the kitties are quite wild, galloping all over the house chasing each other and making the noise of a herd of wild horses.  In other words, things are much as they were.
