A vegetarian human's adventure with cats

You Need a Bath!

Caesar was in one of the kitty beds reclining next to the human. The Little Red Bee came up for some hugs. After getting a brushing and some toothpaste treat, he hopped over and joined his big brother. Problem is his Big Brother always thinks he needs a bath. Out came one of those big Caesar paws and held poor Fireball in place.  <<What are you chuckling at, human?>>

Big & Small

Here’s Fireball catching a snooze by an open window where he can enjoy the early morning breeze. But do you see the second kitty in his picture? Yes, the Big Emperor is curled up in the small bed for Fireball-size kitties and Fireball is stretched out on the enormous bed for Caesar-size kitties. Go figure!

Woken from a Sound Sleep

Caesar was lounging in a kitty bed right next to the window, enjoying the cool breeze that wafted through.  The evil human approached with her annoying camera.   He knew what this meant:  the 2-legged was going to disturb his sleep. If giving her a funny look didn’t keep her from touching his paws and his soft tummy, then he would meet her eye-to-eye and give her the “Go away!” stare.    <<Miraculously, it worked!>>

Time for a Stretch

<<Despite what it looks like, sleeping is hard work. >> <<Every now and then it’s important to take a good stretch. Don’t forget to extend your chin and stretch your neck and throat. This is a good way to cool down your paws as well.>> <<You have to lift your shoulders high and open up your chest. Twisting helps ensure your intercostals get some action. Technique is so important here.>>

The Dissolute Life

Need we say more? (And how did that blanket get out of the kitty bed?)

Bag Lady

Missy Mao has been enjoying exclusive use of the green soft-sided cat carrier.  Even when it’s hot, she can be found stretched out inside.  She loves sticking her little head out the wide “window” in the back and smirking. She’s such a Merkitty!

Belly Scratch

Pepe likes attention.  He really likes to have his belly scratched or petted or kissed or pretty much anything at all…until he doesn’t. If the human walks in and he’s laying on the bed — remarkably often flat on his back with his legs in the air — then he wiggles around as the human walks by begging for attention.  Let’s be honest, it’s really hard to resist.  And when the human does manage to resist for a few minutes to get some pics, Pepe seems puzzled that his best efforts to be cute and attract attention are failing him.  Fortunately, he doesn’t hold a grudge, and the human usually is unable to resist petting him or kissing his tummy for long.

Cats’ Life

The human’s 2-legged friends used to say they wanted to be reincarnated as her pets. (It’s an unfair rumor that the human spoils her furry friends.) In actuality, the 4-leggeds do have a pretty good life here, even if they don’t think so themselves. (What cat is totally satisfied with his/her surroundings?) They have cushy furniture to sprawl on and all the fleece blankets they could ever want or need.  They have the love and adoration of the human. They have the company of good friends, plus the eats here are pretty primo too.  For now, they’ll keep their human and their house.

Sleepy Bears

The human walked through the living room only to see Mac and Caesar, rump to head, sitting on one of the couches.  They looked so cute cuddled up together.  Of course, in stopping to snap pictures, the human woke up Mac. That prompted Caesar to turn around so he was head-to-head with Mac. It’s so nice to see such good kitty friends spending time together. And, for a change, the little minx wasn’t piled on top of the poor Emperor kitty.

Tuxedos Meet New Kitty Carrier

The human found a nice soft-sided kitty carrier the other day.  She brought it home and decided to open up both ends so the kitties could explore.  As luck would have it, the two tuxedos were in the kitchen at the time and they decided to check it out. First Pepe stuck his head into each end and had a sniff.  He actually followed some pen caps he and Mac had been chasing to the edge of the carrier and cuffed them around.  Next Mac went in the proper “door” and walked through the carrier and out the “window.”  For some reason, that got Pepe all jazzed up.  He returned to the carrier and looked out the window. Meanwhile, Mac was checking out the side pocket and a second larger “window.” He wisely understood that squeezing out the “window” would be a tight fit. (So much for this being a “big” carrier.) He backed out and hunkered down beside the carrier and peered at Mac, who was gazing off without interest.  Next, he prepared to pounce on her, but she was having none of this and got up and moved. This jockeying for attention went on for about 10 minutes.  Then all the cats disappeared and the human was left to pick everything up. Such is the entertainment found in this house most mornings.
